What Our Children Say About Youth Violence, What Causes It,
and What We Need to Do About It
We hope this report will contribute to the national conversation about youth violence. We hope, in particular, that it will strike some as significant that the chief law enforcers of the states find that law enforcement by itself cannot possibly solve or prevent youth violence.
Instead, we as a society need to get at the root causes of youth violence. We need to pay far more attention to how we raise and nurture our children, how we listen to them and what we hear, how we teach them to deal with problems, how we act as role models for them, and how we make them feel part of a community of people who care for and
support one another. We hope the efforts of the National Association of Attorneys General, including this report and all the good work it describes, will further that goal.
