Complaints against attorneys are initially reviewed by a local grievance panel and then referred directly to the disciplinary counsel's office for appropriate action. The office of the state's chief disciplinary counsel is responsible for presenting cases that allege unethical conduct by lawyers once those cases are referred by the Statewide Bar Grievance Committee.

The Connecticut Bar Association runs a program for resolution of legal fee disputes. It allows lawyers and clients with a dispute over the fees incurred for legal services to find a solution to their problem through mediation and/or arbitration, rather than litigation.
