ASMFC TAUTOG (BLACKFISH) AMENDMENT 1
PUBLIC INFORMATION DOCUMENT
CT DEEP Marine Fisheries Division is hosting a Public Hearing to get input on the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s Draft Amendment 1 to the Fishery Management Plan for Tautog.
The hearing will be held at:
7:00 PM, Thursday, September 24, 2015
CT DEEP Marine Headquarters Education Center (rear building)
333 Ferry Road
Old Lyme CT
Comment will be taken on the Public Information Document (PID) the Commission developed to gather information on the tautog fishery and to provide an opportunity for the public to identify major issues and alternatives concerning the management of this species. Specific input is needed on the selection of regional stock areas for management use. Input received at the start of the amendment development process can have a major influence on the final outcome of the amendment. The PID is intended to draw out observations and suggestions from fishermen, the public, and other interested parties, as well as any supporting documentation and additional data sources. In general, the primary questions on which the Commission is seeking public comment are: “How would you like the tautog fishery to look in the future? And, more specifically, what do you think is the best regional breakdown for tautog management moving forward?”
Of particular interest to Connecticut residents is the question of local regional breakdowns for assessment and management areas. Specifically, whether Connecticut’s fishery should be managed with: 1) Rhode Island and Massachusetts, 2) New York and New Jersey, or 3) with New York’s north shore fishery to form a Long Island Sound assessment and management area.
Written comments will be accepted until 5:00 PM October 23, 2015. They may be submitted to Marine Fisheries via email: email@example.com
; or U.S. Mail: Marine Fisheries Division PO Box 719, Old Lyme CT 06371. Comments may also be submitted directly to ASMFC: Ashton Harp, FMP Coordinator, 1050 N. Highland St, Suite A-N, Arlington, VA 22201; 703.842.0741 (FAX) or at firstname.lastname@example.org
