DEEP: Renewable Portfolio Standard

Renewable Portfolio Standard
Section 129 - Renewable Energy Portfolio Standards

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) issued a final study on Connecticut's existing Renewable Portfolio Standard on April 26, 2013. This analysis was called for in the milestone energy legislation, Public Act 11-80, passed in June of 2011. Section 129 of this Act requires that DEEP analyze options for minimizing the cost to electric ratepayers of procuring renewable resources and the feasibility of increasing the renewable energy portfolio standards. Public Act 11-80 (2011) further called for DEEP to analyze the impacts, costs and benefits of expanding the definition of Class I renewable resources to include hydropower and other technologies that do not use nuclear or fossil fuels.
