Investigation Unit
This DMV Unit investigates complaints received from the citizens of Connecticut, tax assessors and police departments with regard to any criminal matter in which the Connecticut DMV or a customer is a victim; or regarding vehicles registered out-of-state that are owned by someone residing in Connecticut.
Registration Compliance cases must include:

The name of the person
-
Their Connecticut address
-
The out-of-state license plate number displayed on the vehicle

Any other pertinent information that will assist in our investigation.
All complaints must be in writing and sent to:

A resident of this state who operates a motor vehicle he or she owns with license plates issued by another state shall be fined $1,000.
