DOAG: Experience Connecticut Dairy Products

CT Dairy Farms

Connecticut’s dairy farms represent a large portion of the state’s farmland and provide pastoral landscapes, scenic vistas, and a wealth of rural character to local communities. In addition, they provide residents of Connecticut and beyond with fresh milk and value-added products such as cheese, butter, yogurt, and ice cream. Visit one or more of these local dairy farms and learn why they are a vital segment of Connecticut agriculture and how they contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by those who live, work, and play here in the state.

Look below to find a diversified dairy farm in your county.

*Warning: Retail Raw Milk has not been pasteurized and may contain harmful bacteria. Pregnant women, children, the elderly and persons with lowered resistance to disease have the highest risk of harm from use of unpasteurized milk.

Unpasteurized milk may contain several human pathogens including but not limited to: Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella spp., E. Coli O157:H7, Yersinia enterocolita, Campylobacter jejuni and Staphylococcus aureus which in high enough quantities produces a toxin that results in food poisoning. Pregnant women, children, the elderly and immune compromised individuals are most susceptible to contracting an illness through the consumption of unpasteurized milk.

The Connecticut Department of Agriculture, Connecticut Department of Public Health, Federal Food and Drug Administration, and other public health authorities such as the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Conference on Interstate Milk Shipments, the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, the Association of Food and Drug Officials, and National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians advise consumers not to consume unpasteurized milk because of the health risks.

The Key below helps you identify’ the types of dairy animals and the products that each of these diversified dairy operations offer to the public. Then, the farm description provides more detailed information that you will need to determine if that particular dairy farm supplies the products you desire, and helps you decide which farms you would like to visit.
