Target of Vishing Scheme
On the morning of September 17, 2008 Jewett City Savings Bank was made aware that a “VISHING” scheme was underway in the Griswold Connecticut area.  Telephone calls were being made to customers and non customers of the Bank in area code 860, exchange 376 numbers with the following message:
“Your card at Jewett City Savings Bank has been deactivated.  To reactivate your card press 1.  At that point additional information was requested.
Numerous parties receiving this message contacted the Bank questioning the telephone call. 
No systems at the bank had been breached and callers were assured that Jewett City Savings Bank would never request personal information in this manner.
The FBI, Connecticut State Police, data center fraud unit and telephone carrier fraud unit have been alerted and are investigating the scheme.
