Public Information Meeting Concerning the Rehabilitation of Rt 2 Bridge in Stonington
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the rehabilitation of the bridge carrying Route 2 over the Route 78 On-Ramp, in the town of Stonington. The meeting will be held on November 14, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Stonington Police Department, Stonington, Connecticut.
The existing bridge, built in 1970, is a two-span structure consisting of a reinforced concrete deck and steel box girders supported by reinforced concrete abutments and pier founded on rock. It is situated between Route Nos. 49 and 234 and carries two lanes of traffic in both the northbound and southbound directions. It has an overall length and width of 254 feet and 80.5 feet, respectively, and a curb-to-curb width of 52 feet.
The proposed project consists of deck patching, sidewalk replacement and steel painting.
Work is anticipated to begin in spring 2014 and be completed in fall 2014. The rehabilitation of this bridge is to be undertaken with Federal and State funds. The estimated construction cost for this project is $3,100,000.
