The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the replacement of Bridge No. 02027, which carries Route 7 over Norwalk River, in the town of Ridgefield. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the Town Hall Meeting Room, 400 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT.
The existing bridge, built in 1928, is a simple-span structure consisting of a 24 inch concrete deck supported on stone masonry abutments. It is situated just north of the intersection of Route 102 and carries two lanes of traffic in both the northbound and southbound directions. It has an overall length and width of 23 feet and 31 feet, respectively, and a curb-to-curb width of 29 ft.
The proposed project consists of constructing new pile supported concrete abutments to receive a precompressed simple span steel and concrete superstructure with new bituminous overlay. The new curb-to-curb width with will be 32 feet and the total length will be 60 feet.
Work is anticipated to begin in spring 2015 and be completed in fall 2015. The replacement of this bridge is to be undertaken with 100 percent State funds. The estimated construction cost for this project is $2,800.00.
The construction will be performed with weekend detours to provide for normal traffic operations during weekdays. Based on the State highway boundary map, the width of the Route 7 right-of-way at the site is approximately 30 to 70 feet; therefore, impact to private property consisting of permanent and temporary easements are anticipated.
The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project. The meeting facility is ADA accessible.
Language assistance may be requested by contacting the Departmentís Office of Communication (voice only) at (860) 594-3062 at least five working days prior to the meeting. Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public, and efforts will be made to respond to requests for assistance.
Plans will be available for public review. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project. More detailed information is available at Department's Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
