DSS Stamford Office Re-Opening Monday, August 8, 2016

The Department of Social Services is re-opening its Stamford field office at 1642 Bedford Avenue on Monday, August 8, after extensive repairs and remediation of major water damage that closed the office for the past four months.

 

DSS staff will be available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to assist clients and applicants.  The agency administers services for children, families, individuals with disabilities and older adults, including health care coverage, food and nutrition assistance, child support, temporary family assistance and state-administered general assistance.

 

“We thank our customers and community partners for their patience and cooperation over the past several months as we worked with the building owner to return the office to a clean and safe environment,” said DSS Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby.

 

When after-hours water damage closed the building in early April, Stamford DSS staff were re-deployed to the agency’s Bridgeport and New Haven field offices.  During that time, Stamford-area clients could continue to access the agency online at www.connect.ct.gov to check on service eligibility, report changes, and apply or renew benefits; visit another DSS office; or contact the DSS Client Information Line and Benefits Center at 1-855-6-CONNECT.
 
These service options are always available to residents statewide, and full information about DSS programs is available at www.ct.gov/dss.

Our automated ‘interactive voice response’ telephone system will help DSS clients get the information you need without waiting to speak to an eligibility worker. You will also have the option of speaking to a worker, if you choose, during business hours.
Please use this, toll-free service instead of the local DSS numbers you have been using. This Client Information Line service is available 24/7. You can also connect directly to a worker in our Benefits Center by following the phone menu prompts, Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The Benefits Center is staffed with workers dedicated to answering your questions, processing change requests and providing you with information about other resources.
