Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Information
Meeting concerning Project No. 130-184, the proposed superstructure replacement
of Bridge No. 01157 which carries Bucks Hill Road over I-84 in Southbury,
Bridge No. 01157 is a two span continuous bridge approximately 253 feet
long, with a 39.5 feet out-to-out deck width and a curb-to-curb roadway width
of 34 feet. The bridge was built in 1964
and carries one lane of traffic in each direction. The bridge is located on Bucks Hill Road
approximately 0.7 miles west of Route 188.
The nearest intersecting street is Skyview Drive, and the estimated 2018
Average Daily Traffic is approximately 1,100 vehicles.
The project scope is to replace the existing superstructure. Replacement is required based on the finding
of the latest routine Bridge Inspection Report in which the bridge
superstructure was found to be in poor condition due to deteriorated
girders. The new superstructure will be
a multi-girder steel superstructure. The proposed curb-to-curb roadway width
will remain the same at 34 feet and the out-to-out width will be decreased to
approximately 37.25 feet.
A 10-month closure of Bridge No. 01157 and a corresponding detour of
pedestrian and vehicular traffic is requested.
The proposed detour is approximately 4 miles and using local
routes. The overhead utilities along the
top of the bridge will be relocated to facilitate the installation of the
proposed superstructure. Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed
project are anticipated.
is anticipated to begin in spring 2021 based on the availability of
